Protaweld® TX120RB is a calcium alginate polymer used as an extrusion aid and binder to produce high-quality coated electrodes on welding rods. This grade of Protaweld® is typically used to product larger or thicker welding rods.
Protaweld® TX120RB is an alginate polymer that is highly thixotropic and is added to welding rod coatings to improve the efficiency of the extrusion process. Since Protaweld® TX120RB is thixotropic, the capacity of welding electrode coating production can be increased without increasing extrusion pressure.
In addition, Protaweld® TX120RB allows for more homogenous and thicker electrode coatings to be formed and applied to metal welding rod cores since it imparts improved green bond strength. The Protaweld® TX120RB alginate also binds extremely well to water and in coverage paste, it also retains moisture. This creates better body and facilitates easier viscosity adjustment prior to applying the coating. This also improves the plasticity of the coating while also reducing the chances of cracking occurring during welding.
