METHOCEL™ E3 Premium LV is a water-soluble cellulose ether derived from hydroxypropyl methylcellulose (HPMC). Engineered with moderate hydroxypropyl and high methoxyl substitution, this polymer delivers one of the lowest viscosity profiles available in the METHOCEL™ family—approximately 3 cPs at 2% concentration in water. Its mild shear-thinning behavior makes it an excellent choice for applications requiring precise rheology control without compromising formulation stability.
This grade is particularly well suited for use in coatings, inks, and ceramic systems, where it enhances film uniformity, improves green strength, and supports defect reduction through its reversible thermal gelation properties.
Applications
Coatings & Inks: Acts as a viscosity modifier and film-forming aid, promoting smooth application and consistent drying. Ideal for vertical and horizontal surfaces due to its anti-sag properties.
Ceramics: Functions as a binder and rheology enhancer, improving green strength and reducing cracking and warping during drying and firing.
Adhesives & Cleaners: Offers low-viscosity thickening and water retention, contributing to better spreadability and surface adhesion.
Features & Benefits
Cold water soluble
Nonionic and highly pure
Stable across a wide pH range (2–13)
Enables reversible gelation with heat
Enhances wet tack and drying speed
Reduces friction in high-solids systems
Supports uniform film formation
