Product Overview

METHOCEL™ E5 Premium LV is a water-soluble HPMC cellulose ether polymer with a moderate hydroxypropyl and methoxy substitution. It is a high-purity, nonionic cellulose polymer with varying uses across multiple industrial applications. This excellent rheology modifier is soluble in water and some organic solvents and functions within a broad pH range. This grade is useful for providing pseudoplastic rheology for applications where low viscosity is a necessity. The rheology-modifying properties of METHOCEL™ E5 Premium LV improve the flow properties of certain inks and coatings, ensuring uniform film formation. In such applications, it also helps maintain the stability of suspensions and emulsions. For ceramic applications, it is a great binding agent, as it offers thermal gelation properties, improving green strength and reducing waste and defects.

Applications

As a low-viscosity thickener, METHOCEL™ E5 Premium LV can be utilized in a variety of applications, fitting the need as a binder, rheology modifier, film former, lubricant, and water retention aid. METHOCEL™ E5 Premium LV is primarily used in coating, ink, ceramic, adhesive, and cleaner and detergent applications.

  • Ceramics: METHOCEL™ E5 Premium LV provides controlled thickening and rheology in ceramic extrusion and tape-casting applications and helps reduce defects and imperfections due to green strength improvements offered through thermal gelation properties. METHOCEL™ E5 Premium LV has low impurity levels that make it a perfect fit for specialty ceramics and electronic applications.
  • Coatings and Inks: METHOCEL™ E5 Premium LV can be utilized as a thickener, protective colloid, and pigment suspension aid in coatings and inks. This hydroxypropyl cellulose ingredient provides excellent film-forming properties.
