METHOCEL™ 311 Powder

METHOCEL™ 311 is a hydroxypropyl methylcellulose polymer that is highly soluble in organic solvents. This sets METHOCEL™ 311 apart from other METHOCEL™ grades, which are optimized for water solubility. The excellent organosolubility is due to its high hydroxypropyl chemical substitution, which is the highest amongst all the cellulose polymers in the METHOCEL™ family. METHOCEL™ 311 is soluble in organic solvents such as isopropanol, ethanol, THF, and DMF.  

METHOCEL™ 311 is commonly used in paint stripping and paint removal formulations. This polymer provides better vertical cling and improved dwell time, such that solvents and other chemicals present in these formulations are more efficient and effective at dissolving paint latexes. METHOCEL™ thickeners have excellent stability across the pH scale, being stable in both alkaline and acidic systems. Additionally, METHOCEL™ 311 helps improve products that require a longer shelf life and viscosity stability by helping to keep suspensions from precipitating. METHOCEL™ 311 can also be utilized as a binder for gelled fuel applications.
