METHOCEL™ K15M

METHOCEL™ K15M is a hydroxypropyl methyl cellulose polymer that has a low hydroxypropyl substitution and is water soluble. This cellulose ether is often used as a rheology modifier, water-retention aid, or suspension aid across a variety of industrial applications. When used in solution, it imparts shear-thinning rheology and exhibits excellent lubricity and spreadability across a range of pH.  

With hydroxypropyl content ranging from 7% to 12%, METHOCEL™ K15M has good solvent compatibility, making it a valuable thickener for water and water–solvent blends. METHOCEL™ K15M will reversibly gel at temperatures exceeding 90°C, a feature that boosts green strength in applications like ceramics and adhesives. In architectural paint, coating, and industrial cleaner applications, this HPMC modifies rheology to improve workability and material adherence. Additionally, METHOCEL™ K15M provides additional benefits, such as stabilizing suspensions and emulsions and imparting wet tack properties. It is important to note that METHOCEL™ K15M does not carry the appropriate compliance levels to meet food or pharmaceutical applications.
