Product Overview

METHOCEL™ K4M is a water-soluble cellulose ether polymer. It is based on low substitution Hydroxypropyl Methylcellulose (HPMC). The product provides a viscosity of 4,000 cP at a low level of use.

Applications

METHOCEL™ K4M functions as thickener, rheology modifier, binder, lubricant, film former, and water retention aid. The product is generally used in ceramics, cleaning solutions and coatings.

  • Ceramics: METHOCEL™ K4M is commonly used in refractories and ceramic extrusion applications. It provides uniformed thickening, improved binding and excellent rheology control in such high slid applications. It also provides lubricity, smoother surfaces, and prevents sag or deformation.

  • Cleaning Solutions: METHOCEL™ K4M is commonly used in household and industrial cleaners. It provides high-efficiency thickening and rheology for detergents and cleaning formulations.

  • Coatings and Inks: METHOCEL™ K4M provides excellent thickening and film properties to a wide range of coating applications. It also improves workability stability, and water retention for coatings and inks.

  • Plastics: METHOCEL™ K4M acts as a suspension agent in PVC polymerization. The product provides exceptional particle size control, low reactor scaling, high bulk densities, and advanced plasticizer absorption.
