Hydroxypropyl Methylcellulose (HPMC) thickener with low substitution. Yields viscosity of 40,000 cP at low addition levels. Surface treated to enhance gloss.

Product Overview

METHOCEL™ 240S is a water-soluble cellulose ether polymer with similar properties as METHOCEL™ 240, except 240S is surface-treated and can be added directly to an aqueous system to dissolve. It provides a high viscosity of 40,000 cP at a low level of use.

METHOCEL™ 240S functions as thickener, rheology modifier, binder, lubrican, film former, and water retention aid. The product is widely used in ceramics, coatings, cleaning solutions, and applications when direct aqueous dissolution is needed.

  • Ceramics: METHOCEL™ 240S provides uniformed thickening, improved binding and excellent rheology control in ceramics, extrusion, and casting. It also provides lubricity, smoother surfaces and prevents sag or deformation.

  • Cleaning Solutions: METHOCEL™ 240S provides improved thickening, viscosity control, soil anti-redeposition, emulsion stabilization to cleaners and detergents.

  • Coatings and Inks: METHOCEL™ 240S is used as thickener, protective colloid and pigment suspension in coatings and inks. It provides outstanding film properties such as high tensile, strength, and elongation. It also improves workability and water retention for construction coatings.
